Vaginal Birth after C-Sections

The delivery of a baby is most critical moment for every woman. In 70% cases, most women will have a normal first delivery but if a woman has C-Section for first delivery then VABC becomes difficult after the first delivery and in most scenario. It has been suggested that in 50% of cases VABC will not be possible after the C-Section.

- A healthy pregnancy- If the second pregnancy is healthy without any complications. Then it is possible to have VABC after the C-Section.

- If the indication of LSCS in previous pregnancy is non recurrent , then more chances of VBAC

- If labour starts on its own at 9 month, gynaecologist will suggest you to have VABC.

- Vertical C-Section or classical C section - if the baby was delivered through this section one can’t have VABC. The VABC can cause uterine rupture and damage the stitches as well.

- Uterus Surgery- If you have had a surgery on Uterus like myomectomy then VABC is not recommended.

- Health conditions- If a woman suffers from health conditions like Heart Disease and placenta pervia.

- Recurrent cause of LSCS – like contracted pelvis

There are certain risks involved in VABC like scar dehiscence or scar giving way , the elevated risk of Infection, Injury and Blood loss. A doctor will consider all these factors before suggesting the VABC.
